The Hurricane Choir is made up of both singers and people who never sang before from all walks of life who were effected by the Hurricanes in some way. Some members lost everything including their life collected collatoral including homes, cars and family momento's, but many also lost their jobs, businesses, plus the way of life they had known since childhood. This includes their neighbourhoods and their familar social fabric. But worse, some members also lost the things you can't replace - beloved pets and tragically in some cases, family members, relatives and friends.

The Hurricane Choir project is the gathering together of spiritual communities and community health workers to celebrate the legacy and the future of those areas affected by the devastating storms. The Hurricane Choir tells an amazing story of hope and healing through a multi media performance utilizing songs, film /sound recordings, video footage and still photography. It is a multimedia extraveganza mixed with joyous animated vocal harmonies that blossoms into a positive cutural experience. Something that you won't want to miss! For all, it's the experience of the storms and songs of survival rolled into 2 hours.

The Hurricane Choir is an exciting project of Sing for Humanity, a 501c3 Not-For-Profit non-government organization in the State of Louisiana, with a pending application for federal 501c3 status in the United States of America.

Our Purpose

Our one purpose is to join together as many voices as we can from the communities of southern Louisiana who were devastated by massive hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Through coming together to sing, we will continue to raise funds for Volunteers of America, build social networks, raise awareness of singing as an instrument for healing, and continue data collection for a world first research project to measure the effects of choral singing on mental health.
